EX CHALYBIS

In order to make the technical path we deal with in this publication easier to understand, we are pleased to present a work that already contains in the name the expressive possibilities that can be performed in this procedure. The idea of casting an angel of steel as an emblem of our process was born from a double consideration. First of all iconographic and then historical. It embodies the improvements made in the course of three years of experiments on small format castings and finally merged into the thirty-four elements that make up our work. It should be noted that, unfortunately, the figure was not cast in one piece, due to the poverty - alas - of means and to the pioneering use of materials and tools that have nothing to do with other casting techniques, which could not be predict the outcome. It was necessary to experiment. Time and perseverance have rewarded us.

The subject comes from a small sketch that I kept in the workshop, made of clay, among the many that in the sculptors' studios rest on dusty shelves waiting to be used for a bigger idea or simply to be remembered by those who created them . A technological, futuristic armor and a hooked tail are peculiar characteristics of the apocalyptic exterminator, the Apollion, the angel sent with the key to open the pit of the Abyss. With a gentle and gentle face like a baroque angel, but armed with a sword, he was perfect for the name he would bear: Chalybs, steel, son of the Calibi their heritage, formerly used to forge invincible weapons, including the legendary Exchalybur, made in fact ex Chalybis, ie by the Calibis. Fantasy, excited, created the rest.
